World Wushu Championship 2007

It has become quite a tradition that the best wushu athletes from different countries come to Beijing to take part in the World Wushu Championship. The year of 2007 wasn't an exception. Asian athletes were leading this time. Russia proved that its' national team is one of the strongest teams in the world. The zest of the championship were excellent performances of such Russian athletes as Tarasova, Galkin, Beletov.

It seemed that athletes from Mainland China and Chinese provinces: Macao (Aomen), Taiwan, Hong Kong (Xianggang); of Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Korea, Japan, Myanmar, Indonesia were competing only against each other. Ukrainian Wushu Team leader Andriy Koval didn't manage to be among 8 best wushu athletes. Despite his good results: 9.41 Nan Quan, 9.46 Daoshu, 9.19 Gunshu and his brilliant performances he won only 9th place (Nan Quan). There should not be excuses. But.. what happened?.. It all could be explained easily- its the matter and cause of conflict situation in Ukrainian wushu. The overall result of taolu performances of Ukrainian wushu team was a real shame.

Talking about the result of Ukrainian Wushu team performances in the whole- it was not just very bad, it was horrible.

Ukrainian wushu team got 6th place among 6 participants in women's dui lian (it means - the worst point and the worst performance). However this result is being presented as the 6th place of Ukrainian athletes and as almost the final place in the general rating (a great move to cheat specialists and amateurs, who saw neither performances, nor total protocols).

The Ukrainian wushu team athletes got next-to-last places in each program- 34th, 45th, 71st (Please take a closer look at analysis of the protocols of Ukrainian Wushu team performances). The point of 7.66 in Gunshu of one of the Ukrainian athletes speaks for itself. Ukrainian wushu sanshou team athletes (trained by Y. Tarasiuk and I. Homenko) really did their best. Yet for young athletes such result on the world championship could be marked as "B-". It was really hard for our athletes psychologically, but they are looking forward to take part in the European championship and we believe that their victories are in the nearest future. Maria Batsman and Irina Sorokovskaya did good and got 5th place.

When journalists asked Mr. Gleb Muzrukov what he thinks of Ukrainian Wushu team he replied: "You don't have a team in Ukraine. You have problems with development of wushu in Ukraine. There were some good athletes in Your country in the past, now I can see only A.Koval.. "

The American Wushu Society president Edward Aguirre
From November 26 until December 2 the American Wushu Society (AWS) president Edward Aguirre conducted a number of meetings, seminars, and training lessons.

On the 27th of November the AWS president met with the honoured president of Ukrainian Federation of Sporting and Traditional Wushu (USTWF) Vadim Litvin. During their friendly conversation the latter expressed his attitude to the specialists, coaches and sportsmen of UFSTW; he pointed out their high level of qualification as well as their complete devotion to this sort of martial art. The issues of participation of the best Ukrainian athletes in the World Championships as well as in the Championships of Europe, the necessity of developing our native sport were also discussed.

During the meeting with the Minister of Ukraine on youth, family, and sport issues Yu.A. Pavlenko, the following questions were paid attention to and discussed:

1. Sufficient development of sporting trend of wushu
2. Necessity of professional approach to the training of sportsmen of high class for the purpose of proper presentation them at the international arena and forming of new combined teams
3. Work of sporting federations having a status of national
4. Problems of wushu development in Ukraine and in the world.

The main trends of consequent wushu development in Ukraine are come to terms with.

On the 29th of November the head-quarters of the Ukrainian Association "Zhen Gungfu" was visited by Edward Aguirre. The movement of traditional wushu and sanitary tendency of cigung had been discussed by him together with the president of Association, master Mu Yu Chung. A plan of work in development of cultural and international ties in the world had been designed too.

That very day a meeting between master Edvard Aguirre and the founder of a new sort of single combat called "free-fight" Andrey Starovoyt took place at the office of "Peresvit" union. After the official presentation of American and Ukrainian parties the possibility of conducting combined international tournaments in Ukraine was discussed.

An enlarged session of USTWF dedicated to the visit of AWS president to Ukraine took place on November 30. The session was attended by members of USTWF presidium, representatives from 10 oblasts of Ukraine (28 persons), coaches, and sportsmen who listened to the master Edward Aguirre's report.

The report said about the problems of wushu development and those difficulties each specialist of martial arts has to face in every country of the world.

The USTWF president O.V. Chukanov's report was dedicated to the questions of wushu monopolization by the federation, which had closed an agreement with the State Sports Committee. His report also said about the destructive activity conducted by managers of wushu/kungfu and qigung in Ukraine for the purpose of securing their own family interests instead of country's interests. Besides, he raised the question about ways of solving the problem.

Seminars under the new methodologies and zhou gung developments, coordinated qualities and endurance development were conducted by Edward Aguirre for the USTWF sportsmen and coaches from November 29 until December 1.

The president of the American Wushu Society Edward Aguirre arrives to Ukraine for one week on 26th of November.
The program of the visit includes conducting judge and educational seminars, lectures and discussions of further ways of wushu development in Ukraine and the whole world.

The 5th Wushu-Sanshou Championship of Kievo-Svyatoshinskyi
district
The 5th Wushu-Sanshou Championship of Kievo-Svyatoshinsikiy district had been held under the suppport of Ukrainian federation of sporting and traditional wushu (see instructors in the section of sanshou: Yu. Tarasyuk, I. Khomenko) from 19 to 20 November in Novosyelki, Kievskaya oblast.
Nine teams and fifty-eight fighters took part in the competition. All of them showed their skills, technique and tactical training, volitional qualities. The head judge of the competitions Aleksandr Panichuk, the head judge on the battle area Yuriy Tarasyuk and referee on the battle area Ivan Pinchuk fulfilled their task excellent. The participants were decorated with diplomas and medals, valuable presents - brand new mufflers and training paws.

Wushu is Out of the Official Program of Olympic Games Held in Beijing Beijing, October 14
On completion the 10th National Games Jaques Rogge, the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), gave a surprise for all the wushu worshippers, who tried their best for wushu to be included in the Olympic Games program. "The wushu competitions will take place during the Olympic Games. This event will not concern the official 28th sport competitions, though we are going to arrange the wushu competitions together with the BOCOG (The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad )", Rogge said during the opening ceremony of the 6th Art Exhibition of Sport Competitions yesterday's morning in Nanjing, Beijing.
A lot of specialists, coaches and sportsmen desired wushu to be included in the Olympiad. Beijing had all the possibilities for this matter. Nevertheless IOC rejected the decision of including it reserving to itself the right of representing wushu in Beijing as a demonstrative sport. Rogge didn't explain whether wushu will have to make the same path as thekvondo and tennis, which were represented earlier as demonstrative and a short time later became official sports in the Olympic Games. Besides since 2002 IOC decided to confine itself to 28 sports and still it stands its ground not to include other sports in the Olympiad.

The First Open Championship and Sporting Wushu Championship in Cherkassy Region
The first open Championship and Sporting wushu Championship was held in Cherkassy from 24 to 26 of October. About 100 sportsmen from 10 teams took part in the competitions. The list of participants includes sportsmen from Cherkassy, Kiev and Kiev oblast, Odessa, Berdyansk, Vinnitsa, Lugansk, Boyarka, Dnepropetrovsk oblast and also the club team "Dobro".
This is the first wushu event of such scale held in Cherkassy. This event became available thanks to the Cherkassy Oblast Organization of Sporting and Traditional Wushu and managers Sergey Sobchuk and Kiril Kichev. Great support was given by the Cherkassy oblast Department of family, youth, and sport. The deputy head of Department, Sergey Grigorievich Les', also visited the place of competitions and highly appreciated the work. Besides he took active part in the decoration of winners. A seminar concerning new international rules (ref. edition 2003) for team representatives and UFSTW judges was held as well.

The 5th International festival "Golden Lily"

The fifth international festival "Golden Lily" struck all the world-wise guests, who came to visit this grand holiday from different parts of the planet on invitation of the Olympic artistic gymnastics champion Lilia Podkopayeva. This event took place on Saturday, in the Dvorets Sporta (Palace of Sport) of the capital. Among the spectators who glutted the place were 50 (!) Olympic champions who earlier took part in 13 Games.
Five hundred sportsmen and performers from 12 countries took part in the sport holiday held for the first time under the patronage of United Nations Organization. All the spectators and participants of the holiday had been greeted by "Miss Universe" Natalia Glebova. The stars of the circus art, body-building, acrobatics, trampoline, dancing ballet, single combats gave demonstration of their mastery. The festival appeared to be a true meeting of friends - on the stands of Dvorets Sporta one could see a constellation of sportsmen who contributed greatly in the Olympic movement. Among them there were Larisa Latynina, Sergey Bubka, Irina Deryugina, Aleksandr Volkov, Yana Klochkova, Boris Shalin, Stella Zakharova etc. The legend of sporting gymnastics Latynina, whose unique achievements marked in the Guinness Book of Records, couldn't help shedding a tear when all the present had got up greeting her with applause.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Lilia Aleksandrovna for invitation of Ukrainian Free Fight Federation and Ukrainian Federation of Sporting and Traditional Wushu to participate in this grandiose sport festival. Our guys prepared a team-turn together with gymnasts and kick-boxing masters. Their performance went with a bang!

The 6th International Invitation Wushu Contest
The 6th International invitation Wushu contest took place in Beijing from 20 to 24 of August. In the all-round competitions four golden medals were won by Andrey Koval of Brovary. Golden and silver medals in the traditional events were taken by the Donetsk resident Aleksey Nosach. See the photo soon. Ref. article .

International Seminar, Organized by the Association of Baltic and Northern Countries and Shankhai Wushu Institute
Sportsmen and coaches of the Ukrainian federation of sporting and traditional wushu took part in the international seminar, organized by the Association of Baltic and Northern Countries and Shankhai Wushu Institute. Specialists from 5 countries (Ukraine, Russia, Latvia, Finland, Australia) took part in the seminar.
We had a perfect opportunity of promoting the mastery and strengthening our knowledge under the direction of the top-level instructors, coach staff of the Shankhai Wushu Institute and sportsmen of the combined team.

Annual Sports-Sanitary Centre "Lyubich-Shaolin"
The annual sports-sanitary centre "Lyubich-Shaolin" had its door opened from 1 July until 13 July in the picturesque part of Kiev oblast - on the Desna River. Eighty participants including sportsmen and coaches enjoyed clean air, five meals a day, clear river, every day training, cultural and entertaining program during two weeks for the fourth year on end.
The training program of the centre was finished by passing the "shaolin corridor". It should be noted that this year the "corridor" had been built by the participants themselves during three days. Passing all the "shaolin corridor" trials took the same amount of time. There were a lot of joy and impressions.
All the interested persons are invited to join that fascinating pastime (kung fu).

International charity seminar on sporting and traditional wushu
From 29 to 30 June 2005 an International charity seminar on sporting and traditional wushu in the frames of the Azov Sea Cup took place in Berdyansk, Ukraine.
Sportsmen, coachs, amateurs and simply interested people participated in the seminar. There were more than 80 participants from different regions of Ukraine. An opinion of the organizers and participants was the following: nothing like that has ever taken place in Ukraine and that's why the decision of holding an annual International charity seminar called "Wushu Basics" was made unanimously.

Azov Sea Cup
From 29 to 30 June 2005 the Azov Sea Cup was held in Berdyansk, Ukraine.
Eleven Ukrainian teams, including sportsmen from Poland and Russia participated in the Azov Sea Cup. Such pearls of Ukrainian wushu as Andrey Koval , Yulia Vysoven (Brovary) as well as Aleksey Mokhov (Udmurtia), Daria Kulakova (Moscow), Stas Shapovalov, Bogdan Kharlan (Berdyansk), Voytek Shakhnovsky (Poland) had been invited to the competitions. The contest was held with mark "excellent"! Organizers prepared nice presents and prizes. Judge team coped with its well.
Team places were distributed in the following order:

The International charity seminar on sporting and traditional wushu in the frame of the Azov Sea Cup will take place in Berdyansk, Ukraine, from 29 to 30 June

Wushu World Championship, America 2005
From 20 to 22 May the American Wushu Society, recognized by the Olympic Committee of America , conducted the wushu world championship, which took place in resort city of Miami-Beach. It is significant that this Championship had been supported by the government of Florida state and New York as well as the Olympic Committee of America, senator Jeb Bush and Miami Mayor's Office.
More than 20 teams took part in the competitions Most of them represented South America and Northern America. Europe was represented by Italy, France, and Ukraine; besides Chinese team had been invited too. Such amount of teams is explained by a few reasons: a lot of, for instance, Chinese teams had been rejected in granting visas, visa and financial problems also prevented Russian team from coming to these competitions, political collisions in the issue of world contemporary wushu development made it impossible for many teams of the world to be present on this championship. According to the organizers` Championship report more than 50 applications had been submitted.
Ukrainian federation of sporting and traditional wushu received the official nominal invitations from the American association too. After two months of negotiations with organizers, team training before the competitions and personal approval of the minister on youth and sport issues Pavlenko, Ukrainian team left for the USA.
The Championship went off perfectly! Organizers invited prominent masters of wushu and top-level referees to take part in the in this action. The head referee of the Championship - American master, referee of the international level, a man who can be properly supposed a founder of the Pan American wushu, one of the longstanding instructors of the International Wushu Federation Nick Gracenin highly appreciated the organization of the competitions and specifically noted the world level of training of the Ukrainian athlets. Referee work was conducted by Lee Zin Hen (China), Chukanov Oleg (Ukraine), Hector San-Tiago (Puerto-Rico), Leon Chaves (Mexico), Len Biza (America). Referee team coped with its task excellent. The proof is the absence of any appeal!
Ukrainian athlets competition results: the champion of the World Andrey Koval (Kiev-Brovary, "Spartak"):
1 place (nanquan, south fist) fist technique;
1 place (daoshu, sabre) technique of short steel;
1 place (gunshu, stick) long steel technique;
2 place (ditang) traditional fist technique;
1 place (shuandao) traditional technique of steel
and another World champion Aleksey Nosach (Donetsk region., "Spartak"):
1 place (changquan, long fist) fist technique;
1 place (jienshu, sword) technique of short steel;
1 place (qiangshu, spear) technique of long steel;
1 place (ditang) traditional fist technique;
2 place (pudao) traditional technique of steel.
There was a world Hip-Hop Dance Battle at the same time in Miami-Beach. Lots of participants competed for the title of the best too. With the wushu competition and hip-hop dance battle completed, the sportsmen had opportunity to clarify which kind of art or sport contains more difficult elements. We would like to express our special thanks to everyone who helped our sportsmen in realizing their desire to participate in the World Championship held in America, that is to say the president of the American Wushu Society master Edward Aquirre, the honourable president of Ukrainian federation of sporting and traditional wushu mister V.V.Litvin, minister on Youth and Sport issues, mister Yu. A. Pavlenko.
We hope for the next year to be able to participate in the World Wushu Championship under AWS version having a larger and younger staff of sportsmen.

All-Ukrainian USTWF cup on wushu-sanshou "The Health of the Nation"
Qualified and accurate arm and foot attacks in the trunk and head, flash-like and steady kicks in the authorized zones (head, trunk, hips), clenches of hands or legs with the following instantaneous hurls, pushing beyond the borders of the battle arena sometimes with the help of punching or kicking as well as hurl technique; all these things are not limited by the strength of the hit (contact) - that what Wushu-sanshou is!
Over again a hospitable city of Brovary opened its doors for more than 140 participants from 9 regions and 19 teams of Ukraine for conducting the First Inter-Ukrainian Wushu - Sanshou (contact combats) Cup of Ukrainian federation of sporting and traditional wushu
The sportsmen had been competing for the title of the Inter-Ukrainian USTWF Cup winner during two days. The competitions conducted on two carpets had been held in Ukraine for the first time: first one - for adult (18 years old and elder) and juniors (15-17 years old), second one - under-juniors (12-14 years old) and children (under 11 years old). The competitions had been opened by the official guests and competition organizers. The participants were also congratulated by the people's deputy of Ukraine and honourable USTWF president V. V.Litvin, the deputy chief of physical training and sport department of Brovary Dotsenko M. F., and the first USTWF vice-president Chukanov O.V.. Any visitor entering the gym had had to thread its way through the crowds of observers and fans to the scene of action in order to have at least a little glance at the combat. And it was really worth observing - acknowledged wushu-sanshou masters as well as boxing, kick-boxing, muai-tai and karate masters. Among the strongest schools of Kiev oblast one should mention the school of the town of Chabany, the city of Brovary, that of Kiev-Svyatoshinskyi district and the work of such coaches as Yu. Tarasyuk, I. Khomenko, A. Panichuk, Yu. Rogov, I. Pinchuk, L. Kovarskiy, V. Lavrenets; the coachs of Vinnitskaya obl. - R. Nagornyuk, Bey., M. Yazvenyuk Besides we would like to note the schools of Kherson (coach Ryabinin S.), Kirovograd (coach A. Matrosov) and especially powerful club in Ukraine nowadays - "Slavia" (coach Shevelyev I.) Among the Inter-Ukrainian UTSWF Cup winners in personal championship are:

Conference of Ukrainian Federation of Sporting and Traditional Wushu
Delegates from 14 oblast organizations, guests from Kiev, diverse sports committees` representatives, presidents of Ukrainian and oblast federations and associations as well as coachs, sport instructors and sportsmen had been invited to the conference.
There had been discussed and accepted the main ways of solving problems of Inter-Ukrainian Federation of Sporting and Traditional Wushu activity.
1. The election of the President, the honorary president, the Federation Presidium, the first vice-president, vice-presidents, the Checkup Committee.
2. The issue of interaction of local and oblast organizations with oblast sports administrations.
3. Adoption of the sole emblem and symbols of the organization.
4. Combined carrying out of competitions, seminars and other measures of the federation.
5. Adoption of membership dues and their expediency.
The conference was held on the high level and it lasted for 5 hours. Many delegates pointed out the absence of formalism and routine methods in carrying out debating. See the conference results in the nearest time in the section "Materials". [UFSTW Conference photos ]

Wushu-Sanshou Championship and Supremacy of Vinnitsa region
The Wushu-Sanshou Championship and Supremacy of Vinnitsa region had been held in Vinnitsa from 16 until 17 April. More than 200 participants and 12 teams from different cities and villages took part in these magnificent competitions (exceeding the Championships of Ukraine by amount of the participants)!
It should also be mentioned that team guests as well as representatives from Kiev and Kirovograd had been invited too. The Championship was opened by a ceremonial parade, splendid demonstrative performance of the acknowledged masters: Koval A., A. Nosach, O. Lomenko, and welcome speeches of official representatives and organizers.
The participants had been congratulated by the head of the Department of Physical Training and Sport in Vinnitsa region. F. P. Novik, the president of the Ukrainian Federation of Sporting and Traditional Wushu Chukanov O. V., the chairman of Vinnitskaya oblast sporting and traditional wushu organization Yu. V. Kosenko.
The head judge of the competitions R. I. Nagornyuk fulfilled his responsibilities perfectly. In support of it was the absence of appeals and discords on the part of coachs and team representatives, minimum of injuries among the sportsmen. The level of technique, physical and tactical training was very high. The amount of knock-outs reached 8 times. The winner-team - "U-way" school (CJHS of Strizhevka village).
As it usually happens at the arrangements, this one did not go off smoothly as well: D.P. Pol`gul` (the leader of the Vinnitskaya oblast subsidiary of the Ukrainian wushu/kung-fu and cigung federation) - who had been invited by the senior judge - simply didn`t attend the competitions.
On behalf of the Ukrainian federation of sporting and traditional wushu administration we congratulate the Vinnitskaya oblast sporting and traditional wushu organization on the perfectly held holiday of sport!

Kiev Region Championship on Sporting Wushu
Kiev Region Championship on Sporting Wushu had been held from 9 to 10 April. All the participants had been divided into four age groups and competed according to the standard training schedule.
One hundred and thirty-eight young sportsmen and six teams took part in the competition:
1. Brovary;

An All-Ukrainian Championship USTWF and supremacy on sporting wushu USTWF had been held in Brovary city from 22 to 24 April. Owing to the large amount of the submitted applications the competitions are going to last for three days. The supposed amount of participants is more than 200!!! Bruce Lee is "The Star of the Century"
On the 27th of March, the day of the 100th anniversary of Chinese cinema "The Star of the Century" award had been conferred to the legendary master of martial arts and cinema actor Bruce Lee. The award was received by Bruce Lee's daughter - Shannon Lee.
It should be reminded that not long ago the government of Hong Kong acted very sharply toward Bruce Lee supposing his influence upon the youth to be bad. Today according to the numerous polls Bruce Lee surpasses the actor Jacky Chang and soccer player David Beckham.
The legendary actor and master of martial arts died in 1973 in the house of Hong-Kong actress. Bruce Lee was 32 and the cause of his death is still a secret.

Ukrainian Association of Chinese Culture and Tradition
As an absolutely natural event in Ukraine, one more public organization got the official right for existing. It is going to serve for uniting and support those people, who love, live and revive the tradition and culture of the East. Wushu/Kung-Fu Championship of Ukraine 2005
What amazing things happen in a democratic Government in the sphere of physical training and sport.
The most powerful teams of Ukraine - of Kievskaya and Odesskaya oblasts - are barred by the head judge Nikolay Matulevskiy from participating in the Wushu/Kung-Fu Championship of Ukraine on account of an untimely submitting the preliminary application. It should be noted, that the applications had been submitted two weeks before the competitions.
A three-time champion of Europe, a man who dragged out by himself the whole team of N. Matulevskiy (11 members) to the third place of the Championship of Europe in Moscow, 2004. The man who got the highest mark at the World Festival in Zhen-Zhou (May 9). We would like to cite the statement of the national team senior coach Lyudmila Solodilina: "We don't know how to umpire Koval because of the very complex programs."
What does it all mean and what do the leaders of Wushu/Kung-Fu and Cigung Federation afraid of?! Wait for the details in the press.

American Wushu Society Invitation Recieved
The president of the American Wushu Society Edward Aguirre invited our team for participation in the World Wushu Championship (Miami, Florida), which is going to take place from 18 to 21 May, 2005. [Download , Word, 84Кб] It is noteworthy that except the world wushu championship, there is another grand show of the world scale called Expo Hip-Hop Dance, a demonstration action of mastery by representatives of this sort of youth art.

The 5th International Tournament in Finland (Helsinki)
On invitation of the Association of Baltic Sea and Northern Countries as well as Finnish Wushu Federation, the sportsmen of the Ukrainian Federation of Sporting and Traditional Wushu took part in te 5th International tournament in Helsinki, Finland. Sportsmen from 9 countries - Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Holland, Latvia, Italy, Sweden, Russia, Ukraine - 20 teams in all and 120 sportsmen took part in the competition.
Among the eminent participants of the tournament one could see a guest who performed free of test program - Andrey Koval (Ukraine) - the World Champion of Traditional Wushu (traditional arms section) and the World Prize-winner in Sporting Wushu, Fang Ouey (Holland) - the Champion of Europe in taizizyan, Irina Mazepa and Yekaterina Iordanidi, Mikhail Gololobov (Russia) - repeated Champions and Prize-winners of Beijing, Shankhai and Shaolin Wushu Tournaments of 1998-2004.

The 1st USTWF All-Ukrainian Championship USTWFon traditional wushu in the history of Ukraine. The holiday of traditional wushu was organized thanks to the efforts and integration of many people and organizations (governmental and non-governmental).
